Red Gonlet is a late-maturing semi-remontant strawberry variety developed in Scotland. The plants are large, compact, and vigorous, with upright, sturdy flower stems reaching the level of foliage or slightly below. The leaves are medium-dense, large, and the flowers are white, clustered in inflorescences. Red Gonlet has abundant runners, which promotes good propagation. The berries have a wide-conical shape without a stem, dark red color with a glossy skin, and slightly sunken yellow seeds. The flesh is firm, juicy, pinkish, with a pleasant sweet flavor and nearly no acidity. The yield is quite high — each plant can produce 0.5 to 0.8 kg of berries, which equals approximately 90-100 kg per hundred square meters or 2-2.8 kg per square meter. Berries ripen in mid-June, and a second, less productive fruiting wave occurs in September. The strawberries store well, retain their market quality during transport, and do not weep during harvest, making the variety suitable for both private and commercial cultivation. Red Gonlet is characterized by high winter hardiness and resistance to several diseases, including verticillium wilt, leaf spot, and powdery mildew. However, the plant may be susceptible to gray mold and attack by strawberry root weevil, so spring treatment with bio-preparations is recommended. The variety grows well in sunny locations, both in open ground and protected soil, and requires regular feeding, watering, and preventive measures against diseases and pests. Due to its resilience and stable yield, Red Gonlet is suitable for cultivation in regions with cold winters and unstable summers.
