Strawberry Bogota

Why Bogota is a Professional Choice for the Late Season Market

Finding a strawberry variety that combines extremely late ripening with high pathogen resistance is a significant challenge. The Bogota variety, developed by the North Caucasian Federal Scientific Center for Horticulture, Viticulture, and Winemaking, fills a critical gap at the end of the season when other popular varieties have already finished fruiting.

Key Advantages

• Disease Resistance: The variety boasts high immunity to gray mold, a rarity for large-fruited varieties prone to softening in wet weather. Genetic protection minimizes the risk of crop loss from rust and rots.
• Mass and Firmness: The average berry weight is 40+ grams, with individual fruits reaching an impressive 140–150 grams. The dense flesh structure makes Bogota highly transportable, allowing the crop to reach markets without losing its commercial appearance.
• Yield: When grown in open ground with proper agricultural practices, the variety demonstrates yields exceeding 2.0 kg per bush, making it highly attractive for commercial farming.

Agronomic Profile

Bogota forms elongated, distinct berries. A ripening period of 50-60 days makes it the classic "final chord" of the strawberry season. The crop is versatile: the firmness of the berries is ideal for freezing (they do not turn into mush when thawed), and the excellent flavor profile allows for fresh market use as well as industrial processing.

Who is this variety for?

This variety is a find for farmers focused on extending their sales season. It is best suited for those working in open-field cultivation who want to minimize chemical treatments due to its natural resistance to diseases and mites. The only requirement is ensuring adequate nutrition, which is essential to fully unlocking the potential for large fruit size.
