Honeoye

Honeoye strawberry variety — one of the earliest and highest-yielding American selections, developed in 1979 at the Cornell Research Station in Geneva, New York. This variety is a hybrid of the Vibrant and Holiday varieties, distinguished by its stability and high productivity over many years. Honeoye received the prestigious "Garden Merit" award from the Royal Horticultural Society and is considered one of the leaders among early-to-mid-season strawberry varieties.

Honeoye fruits are large, conical in shape, dark red with a glossy surface and visible seeds. The average berry weight ranges from 20 to 50 grams, making them attractive for both commercial cultivation and home gardeners. Berries have a rich aroma and pleasant flavor, allowing them to be used not only fresh, but also for jam-making, freezing, and subsequent off-season consumption.

Plants of the Honeoye variety feature dense, upright, and vigorous growth, which simplifies care and harvesting. Ripening begins at the end of May and continues until mid-June, ensuring an early and abundant harvest with high yields up to 146 centners per hectare or 800–1000 grams per plant. The variety also exhibits good disease resistance and an unusual level of winter hardiness, making it a versatile and reliable choice for various climatic conditions.
