Wheat variety Sidonius is a high-yielding winter soft wheat variety, belonging to the intensive type and characterized by high yield and resistance to adverse conditions. This variety was registered in the Ukrainian Variety Register in 2016 and was developed by the Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics of the NAS of Ukraine. Plant height reaches 101-105 cm, and the vegetation period is 268-278 days, making Sidonius a medium-early variety with a potential yield of over 100 ц/ha and an average yield of about 89.8 ц/ha in farms. Sidonius is distinguished by high winter hardiness and drought resistance, allowing successful cultivation in various climatic zones of Ukraine, including Polissia, Forest Steppe, and Steppe. The variety has moderate resistance to lodging and high resistance to kernel shattering in the ear. Additionally, it demonstrates very high tolerance to diseases such as Fusarium ear blight, brown leaf rust, and powdery mildew, significantly reducing the risk of yield loss and improving grain quality. The grain of Sidonius has excellent baking and milling qualities: 1000-grain mass varies from 42.7 to 49.4 g, protein content is 13.2-14.0%, and gluten content is 26.4-28.9%. Dough strength is in the range of 267-312 W, ensuring loaf volume of 980-1000 ml. For maximum productivity, intensive cultivation technologies with retardants and seeding rates of 5.5-6.0 million germinating seeds per hectare are recommended, depending on the zone and moisture level.
