Skagen wheat is a medium-late maturing winter soft wheat variety with high plasticity and adaptability to various climatic conditions. This variety features strong, wide flag leaves, high tillering capacity, and resistance to lodging, allowing it to maintain yield even with high nitrogen fertilizer application. Skagen is recommended for cultivation in the Forest-Steppe and Steppe zones of Ukraine and successfully adapts to adverse and drought-prone conditions, demonstrating stable performance and high winter hardiness.
The variety is characterized by high grain yield ranging from 100-125 centners per hectare, thousand kernel weight of 47-49 g, protein content of no less than 13.5%, and high gluten content (28.6%), ensuring excellent baking qualities and high flour yield. Flour strength reaches up to 390, making Skagen wheat in demand for producing high-quality bread. Optimal sowing periods vary from mid-August to late October, with seeding rates of 300-450 seeds per square meter.
Skagen wheat exhibits high resistance to temperature fluctuations, cold, drought, and most common diseases, including leaf septoria and stem diseases. Due to these characteristics, the variety maintains high grain energy and plasticity regarding preceding crops. The breeder is Saaten Union (Germany), reproduction is first. Supplied in 50 kg bags and big-bags of 1000 kg, suitable for various cultivation scales.
