Potato Vitesse

German breeding for consistent yields

The Vitesse potato variety, developed by the experts at Solana, has firmly established itself in the medium-early maturing segment. The German breeding school, renowned for its focus on disease resistance, has created a product that exhibits high adaptability to various soil and climatic conditions, remaining in demand among both professional farmers and home gardeners.

Agronomic potential and protection

Vitesse stands out from its competitors due to its genetic resistance to a wide spectrum of pathogens. The work of the originators (Kartz Von Kameke and the Saka Pflanzenzucht group) has minimized risks associated with the most common threats:

• Proven resistance to the potato cyst nematode.
• High tolerance to common scab and Potato Virus Y.
• Resistance to major viral infections (A, X, and leaf roll virus).
• Capability to withstand tuber rot and Sclerotinia.

Tuber characteristics

The 75-85 day maturity period allows for efficient harvest planning and high-quality output. Vitesse tubers are noted for their attractive commercial appearance: a uniform round-oval shape is complemented by shallow eyes, which significantly simplifies peeling and processing. The yellow skin and flesh make it an ideal choice for culinary applications. A starch content of 14-15% ensures a balanced structure that holds its shape well during cooking, which is highly valued in the table potato market.
