Potato Pikolo Star

Reliable Yields Without Surprises: Why Choose "Piccolo Star"

German breeding by KWS traditionally prioritizes reliability, and the "Piccolo Star" variety is a clear example of this. In the table potato segment, this hybrid occupies the niche of a "confident middle-ground" variety with increased demands for phytosanitary safety. If you have faced crops losing their marketability due to diseases, this variety will become an effective tool for protecting your field.

A Phytosanitary Shield

The main feature of "Piccolo Star" is its genetic resistance to aggressive pathogens. In conditions where other varieties begin to succumb to viral pressure, this potato demonstrates significant resilience:

• Full immunity to potato wart disease.
• High tolerance to golden potato cyst nematode.
• Resistance to major viral diseases that critically reduce yield in intensive production.

Tuber Characteristics and Culinary Profile

Visually, "Piccolo Star" meets the expectations of both end consumers and retail perfectly. Its round-oval shape and shallow eyes significantly simplify peeling and washing. The bright yellow flesh does not darken upon mechanical damage and maintains its structure when boiled, making it an excellent choice for the table potato market.

Who is this variety for?

The ripening period of 105–115 days places this variety in the mid-season group. It is not the earliest option for those chasing the "first potato" in June, but it is ideal for farmers focused on high-quality storage. "Piccolo Star" is optimal for operations aiming to minimize chemical treatments against nematodes and viruses by relying on the crop's biological robustness. It is a balanced choice for those who value predictable results and high-quality tubers without excessive expenses on disease control.
