The potato variety La Strada is a medium-maturing table variety developed by the British company Cygnet potato breeders LTD under the supervision of breeder Douglas Harley. Plants of this variety have a semi-upright, intermediate type with low or medium height and large light-green leaves. The root system is strong, ensuring the formation of 8-12 large oval tubers with smooth light-beige skin and white flesh. The average weight of marketable tubers ranges from 102 to 179 grams, and the starch content is 13.2–15.9%, making this variety versatile for various cooking methods, including boiling, baking, and frying, as well as an excellent addition to salads and soups.
The La Strada variety is distinguished by high yield, which significantly exceeds the yields of standard varieties, reaching a maximum of 677 centners per hectare. The tuber marketability ranges from 84–97%, and storability reaches 93%, indicating good product preservation during storage. Additionally, the variety has strong immunity, resistant to diseases such as potato cancer, crinkle leaf mosaic, and common scab. It shows moderate resistance to leaf curl, virus Y, rhizoctonia, and black leg, although the variety is susceptible to golden potato cyst nematode.
Due to its characteristics, La Strada is suitable for cultivation in the Central and Lower Volga regions. Its high taste quality, high yield, and disease resistance make this variety attractive for both farmers and consumers who value quality and tasty potatoes. This variety is ideal for diverse culinary use and provides a stable yield with proper care.
