Potato Condor

Stable Yields: Working with Kondor

When selecting potato varieties for table use, farmers prioritize the balance between visual appeal and low maintenance. The "Kondor" variety from the Dutch breeder Agrico is a reliable, time-tested performer valued for its predictable output.

Field Performance and Agronomy

For an agronomist, Kondor is practical and consistent. As a mid-early variety, it reaches technical maturity within 65–75 days. With proper care, the tubers grow into uniform, elongated-oval shapes with an attractive pink skin and smooth surface. The tuber weight ranges from 50 to 130 grams, fitting the industry's "gold standard" for retail packaging.

Disease Resistance

Managing pathogens is the primary concern for any producer. This variety is specifically bred for resistance to potato wart, which simplifies field management and eliminates certain quarantine restrictions. Furthermore, Kondor shows robust resistance against:

• Potato virus X and potato leafroll virus;
• Common scab;
• Fusarium and various viral diseases.

This significantly reduces the need for heavy fungicide applications, allowing for a more efficient and cost-effective crop protection program.

Culinary Qualities and Storage

Consumers appreciate the light-colored flesh and flavor profile that remains stable throughout the storage period. With a dry matter content of 18–19%, Kondor is highly versatile. It holds its shape well during boiling or frying, making it a favorite for both home cooking and professional food service. It stores exceptionally well, provided that standard temperature control in the storage facility is maintained.

Choosing Kondor means investing in a predictable commercial product with minimized risk of disease-related losses, making it an excellent choice for table potato production.
