Consistency that pays off

Working with the Provento variety from Agrico has taught me one thing: consistency is king. When you're harvesting, you want to see uniform, oval-shaped tubers, and Provento delivers exactly that. For a commercial grower, it means less time at the sorting table and more high-quality, marketable produce. The bright yellow skin makes it look great in crates, which definitely helps with retail appeal.

Field performance and disease resistance

In the field, Provento is impressively resilient. The standout feature for me is its resistance to Golden Potato Nematode and Potato Wart. It gives you peace of mind, especially when you are rotating crops on different fields. I’ve noticed that it handles common challenges like leaf roll viruses and common scab much better than many other varieties. It's a low-stress variety; it withstands late blight well, so you don't find yourself constantly worried about the next fungicide pass.

Storage and quality

This is a mid-early variety (65–75 days to maturity) that truly shines in storage. With a dry matter content of 19–20% and 13–14% starch, it’s an excellent all-rounder for the kitchen. It doesn't break apart during cooking, which consumers love. More importantly, it keeps extremely well in storage without premature sprouting, provided you manage your storage environment correctly. For a farm manager, that means less manual labor and fewer losses when you're moving inventory later in the season.
