CHINESE LANTERN PEPPER

The Chinese Lantern pepper variety is a medium-maturing hybrid developed in 2007 by the company 'Agrofirm Sedek'. This variety is characterized by high yield and excellent flavor, making it popular among gardeners. The plants are low-growing, reaching a height of 40 to 50 cm, with a compact, semi-spreading form, strong sturdy branches, and large dark green leaves with slight wrinkling. Up to 12–14 fruits can ripen simultaneously on one plant.

The fruits of the Chinese Lantern pepper are large, weighing from 130 to 250 g, with wall thickness ranging from 5 to 8 mm. They have a rounded-cylindrical or rounded-cube shape, smooth and shiny skin that turns a deep red color upon full ripening. Inside, the fruits contain 3–4 seed chambers, with juicy, fleshy flesh. The flavor is sweet with honey-like notes, which distinguishes this variety from other peppers. The fruits are suitable for fresh consumption and retain their flavor and aroma well when frozen, making them versatile for home cooking.

Chinese Lantern is recommended for cultivation both in open ground and in plastic greenhouses. The ripening period ranges from 105 to 115 days until technical maturity. For planting, seedlings should be sown at the end of February, followed by pinching in the cotyledon stage and transplanting into the ground at the end of May. To shape the bush, remove lateral branches and leaves up to the first fork, with a planting scheme of 40x80 cm. Due to its characteristics and versatility, this variety is excellent for pickling, canning, and stuffing.
