IOLO WONDER is a collectible early-maturing variety of sweet pepper, an improved version of the Kalifornia Wonder variety, developed by American breeding. The plants are compact, upright, reaching 45–60 cm in height, and do not require staking or support. They exhibit strong growth and high disease resistance, especially against tobacco mosaic virus, making them reliable for cultivation both in open ground and in greenhouses.
The fruits of IOLO WONDER are large, cube-shaped, measuring 10–12 cm in length and 8–10 cm in diameter, with a weight of about 250 g. They have thick, dense, juicy flesh with 3–4 chambers, distinguished by an exceptional sweet flavor. In the technical ripening stage, the fruits are green, and as they ripen, they turn into a vibrant red color. They can be harvested either green or red. The pepper’s flesh is crisp and delicious when fresh, ideal for salads, stuffing, and frying, where its sweetness and juiciness are fully revealed.
For successful cultivation, seeds should be sown at the end of winter or early spring, and seedlings transplanted under cover in May or into open ground in late May to early June. Light, loose, fertile soils with controlled soil and air moisture are preferred. Watering should be done with warm water in the evening, and it is important to fertilize and pinch the plants to increase yield. Regular harvesting extends the fruiting period and increases overall yield.
