VEKOVAYA

The Vekovaya pear variety is a medium-sized tree with a round canopy of medium density, reaching a height of about 4-5 meters. Leaves are large, oblong, green, and shiny, while shoots are straight and brown. This variety was bred by crossing various pear varieties, including Surprise, Drooping, Ussurian pear, and cultivated pear, providing it with unique characteristics and high adaptability.

Vekovaya pear fruits are large, weighing from 130 to 280 grams, of a regular pear shape with a greenish-yellow coloration and purple tans or a red blush. The flesh is white, dense, tender, fine-grained, juicy, with a sour-sweet taste and medium aroma. Ripening periods are autumnal; fruits begin to ripen in late August – early September or mid-September, depending on the region. Storage of fruits is possible for up to 1.5 months, allowing them to be used both fresh and for making juices, compotes, and dried fruits.

The Vekovaya variety is distinguished by high yield — an adult tree can produce from 130 to 150 kg of fruits. It has high frost resistance and disease resistance, including to scab and gall mite. The pear is self-sterile, so pollinators are necessary to obtain a harvest. Due to its taste qualities and durability, the variety is widely used for dessert consumption and is cultivated in various regions.
