StarCrimson is a summer variety of pear, characterized by large fruits weighing from 180 to 250 grams and pear-shaped. The skin of the fruits is yellow with a bright purplish-red blush when ripe. The flesh is dense, oily, juicy, with a slight nutmeg aroma, sweet-tart in taste, and highly appreciated for its flavor qualities. The fruits are versatile: suitable for fresh consumption, canning, and processing, and when stored properly in the refrigerator, they can last about a month.
Trees of this variety are medium or low-growing, with compact, dense crowns reaching up to 3.5 meters in height. They begin fruiting on the 3rd-4th year after planting. To normalize fruit size and yield, annual spring pruning is recommended. It is recommended to plant on open, sunny areas with light, fertile soils and regular watering, following a planting scheme of 4x4 meters. The variety is highly resistant to scab and has above-average winter hardiness, requiring minimal care.
The fruit ripens at the end of summer — from late August to early September. StarCrimson is a self-incompatible variety, therefore, for pollination, it is recommended to plant pollinator varieties nearby, such as Clapp's Favorite, Williams, Bère Bosk, or Forest Beauty. This variety was developed in America in 1939 and has rightfully gained popularity due to its high yield, attractive appearance, and excellent flavor qualities.
