SAMARA PEAR

The 'Samara Pear' variety is a late-autumn and early-winter type, bred by Russian breeders at the Samara Experimental Station for Horticulture. The tree is medium-sized with a dense, widely pyramidal crown, characterized by early fruiting and high yield. This variety is noted for its relatively high winter hardiness and sun-loving nature, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions.

The fruits have an apple-like shape and an average mass of about 120–140 grams, with larger specimens reaching up to 300 grams. At the time of harvest maturity, they are greenish-yellow, acquiring a golden-yellow color with a bright red blush at full consumer maturity. The flesh is yellowish-white, tender, juicy, and aromatic, with a slightly sour-sweet taste, making the fruits versatile for fresh consumption, as well as for making compotes and jam.

The variety is resistant to winter cold, but has insufficient resistance to scab. Among the main diseases affecting the plant, rust, powdery mildew, and spot are noted. Pests capable of damaging the tree include spider mites, aphids, pear mites, flea beetles, flower weevils, and codling moths. Despite this, 'Samara Pear' remains a popular variety due to its taste qualities, high yield, and decorative appearance of the fruits.
