YAKHONTOVAYA

Yakhontovaya pear is an early-autumn variety bred in 1985 at the Samara Institute of Horticulture and Medicinal Plants by crossing the Williams Red and Volozhka varieties. The author of the variety is breeder A. A. Kuznetsov. Trees of this variety are medium-sized with a compact, narrow-pyramidal crown of medium density; skeleton branches grow at an acute angle. Fruiting is mixed, regular, and abundant, ensuring high yields.

Fruits of the Yakhontovaya variety have an average weight of about 120 grams, a short-pear shape or egg-shaped, sometimes with wide ribs. The skin is thin, smooth, and glossy, sometimes with small bumps. The flesh is creamy-colored, tender, with a pleasant sweet-sour taste and a characteristic muscat note.
