Roxolana

Roxalana Pear — a late winter variety developed by the Lviv Experimental Station in 1961 by crossing the varieties Parisanka and Bere Boyk. The tree is vigorous, with an inverted pyramidal crown, reaching a height of 3.5–4 meters by the 10th year. Fruit-bearing begins 4–5 years after planting, with high and stable yields, annual and abundant fruiting. Self-fertile and highly winter-hardy, it can be successfully grown in regions with cold winters.

Roxolana fruits are large, weighing 200–300 grams, with an elongated pear shape. The fruit skin is green, turning yellow-green with age, with a characteristic grayish-yellow russet, smooth and without roughness. The flesh is juicy, oily, with a pleasant balanced flavor — moderately sweet with a slight acidity. The fruits have good storage capacity and retain their flavor until December, making them suitable for long-term storage.

Harvesting ripeness occurs in mid-October, while consumer ripeness is in December. The variety is resistant to scab and has moderate resistance to pests, reducing the need for intensive plant protection. Due to its characteristics, Roxalana pear is suitable for cultivation in moderate climates and is an excellent choice for those who value high fruit quality and reliable variety.
