Saiwa

The Saiwa pear is a winter variety with a late ripening period, reaching maturity at the end of October. The trees are medium-sized, with a compact, moderately dense canopy, reaching up to 4–5 meters in height. They begin fruiting on the 3rd–4th year after planting. Partially self-fertile, it is recommended to plant other pollinating varieties nearby to increase yield.

The fruits of the Saiwa pear are large, with an average weight of about 269–270 grams, having a classic pear-shaped or slightly elongated oval form. The main color of the fruit is greenish-yellow with a light, diffuse blush. The flesh is medium-dense, creamy-white, tender, oily, very juicy, and melts in the mouth. The taste is harmonious, slightly acidic-sweet, with pronounced sweetness and a pleasant spicy aftertaste. The stone is medium-sized and easily separates from the flesh.

The variety is characterized by high fruiting capacity, frost resistance up to -25°C, drought tolerance, and high resistance to diseases, especially scab. The Saiwa pear has high and stable yields. Due to its excellent taste and good storability, the fruits are suitable for both fresh consumption and processing and long-term storage.
