The IS 2-10 pear is a product of selective breeding by the Institute of Horticulture of NAAS, engineered to minimize risks under Ukraine's volatile climatic conditions. The hybrid's technical value lies in its combination of high frost resistance (up to -30°C) and drought tolerance. Its semi-dwarf tree habit simplifies technical operations such as pruning, canopy management, and harvesting, while ensuring optimal planting density per hectare.

Fruit Characteristics and Storability

The large fruit size (180–250 g) combined with a winter ripening period makes this cultivar commercially attractive for large-scale production. Key technical parameters include:

• Appearance: Classic yellow-green color, often with a subtle blush at the point of consumption maturity.
• Texture: Buttery flesh with a distinct dessert flavor, a trait rarely found in winter varieties intended for long-term storage.
• Storage life: 2–4 months in specialized fruit storage facilities without degradation of commercial quality.

Phytosanitary Resistance

A major factor in lowering production costs is the genetic resistance to scab (Venturia pyrina). This trait significantly reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications throughout the season, making the cultivar highly suitable for both intensive industrial orchards and sustainable, eco-friendly farming. The hybrid’s robust disease resistance, paired with its drought tolerance, ensures consistent yields even during seasons with extreme meteorological stress.
