Description Striys'ka
Striyanka pear — a winter variety developed in Ukraine at the Lviv Experimental Station for Horticulture by crossing the varieties Bere Gardi and Parisanka. Medium-height tree with a broad pyramidal crown of medium density, characterized by rapid growth and high winter hardiness, allowing successful cultivation almost throughout Ukraine. The variety is precocious, entering fruiting as early as the 2nd–3rd year after planting, and by the 7th year yields up to 45 kg per tree. The crown forms through the development of curved shoots, and the leaves are elongated with a pointed apex. The fruits of Striyanka pear are large, elongated-pear-shaped, averaging 260–350 grams. The skin is dense, yellow-green or grayish-green, with a characteristic rusty bloom and light-brown netting. The flesh is creamy, juicy, semi-oily, very sweet with a mild almond aroma, giving the fruit an exquisite dessert flavor. The fruits ripen by the end of October, while consumer maturity may occur as early as mid-November. Thanks to its dense skin and good storability, the pears retain their flavor and appearance under normal storage conditions until March. The variety exhibits high resistance to fungal diseases such as scab, powdery mildew, and leaf rust, significantly simplifying garden care. The frost tolerance of Striyanka pear allows it to withstand temperatures down to -25°C, making it a reliable choice for intensive horticulture in various climatic zones of Ukraine. High and consistent yields, excellent flavor, and long storage life make this variety popular among gardeners and enthusiasts of quality winter pears.
