Description IS 4-6
IS 4-6 is a low-growing rootstock for pears, widely used for cultivating various varieties with high commercial quality and good winter hardiness. Trees on this rootstock are typically medium-sized, reaching a height of about 3.5 meters, with compact and dense crowns. Fruit production begins in the third year after planting, allowing for a relatively quick harvest. The IS 4-6 rootstock is distinguished by high disease resistance and good adaptability to various soils, making it a universal choice for gardeners.

Pears grown on the IS 4-6 rootstock are characterized by large size and attractive shape. For example, the 'Lubimitsa Klappa' variety produces fruits weighing 150–250 grams with smooth, tender skin and a vivid carmine blush on a yellow background. The flesh is white, juicy, slightly tart-sweet, and very tasty, although fruits of this variety do not store longer than 15 days. Another variety, 'Blutberne', features large fruits weighing 300–350 grams with yellow skin and a blurred red blush, as well as sweet, aromatic, and oily flesh. Ripening periods vary among varieties from mid-August to September, allowing selection of the optimal variety for different climatic conditions.

Growing pears on the IS 4-6 rootstock requires adherence to certain agronomic recommendations. Trees prefer sunny, open locations and require abundant watering after planting. Seedlings are best planted in spring or autumn, following a planting scheme that ensures sufficient space for roots. Thanks to high frost and drought resistance, as well as resistance to diseases such as scab and bacterial burn, pears on the IS 4-6 rootstock successfully bear fruit in various regions, including southern areas of Ukraine.
