Volzhanin

The pea variety «Volzhanin» is a mid-season crop with a vegetative period of 64 to 89 days. Plants reach a height of 42 to 89 cm, are characterized by a leafless type, and have well-developed stipules. Flowers are white, the number of flowers per node reaches two, and pods are straight or with a very slight bend and blunt tip. Seeds are round with yellow cotyledons and a black hilum; the mass of 1000 seeds varies from 184 to 245 grams. The variety was created using the method of multiple individual selection and adapted to the soil and climatic conditions of the Middle Volga region, in particular recommended for cultivation in the Samara region. «Volzhanin» is distinguished by high resistance to lodging and shattering, as well as drought resistance above average, which makes it a reliable choice for regions with changeable weather conditions. The variety is resistant to ascochytosis on leaves, but moderately susceptible to this disease on pods and seeds, and highly susceptible to root rots. Protein content in seeds ranges from 24.2% to 25.9%, ensuring high nutritional value of the crop. The yield of the «Volzhanin» variety varies depending on growing conditions: average yield is about 20 c/ha, in the Samara region it reaches 30.3 c/ha, and the maximum registered yield is 43 c/ha, obtained in the Republic of Tatarstan. Elite seeds have high germination and growth energy, which contributes to successful cultivation and stable production of quality crop.
