Pea Sotnik

Operating Working with «Sotnyk» Peas

When taking machinery out into the field with «Sotnyk» peas, the most immediate observation from the operator is the crop’s predictability at harvest time. Developed by the Yuriev Plant Production Institute, this semi-leafless (tendril) variety is designed for growers who want to eliminate the guesswork associated with lodging. With a height of 50–70 cm, the stiff, self-supporting canopy stays vertical until the very last moment, ensuring seamless operation for modern grain headers.

Harvesting and Efficiency

The main advantage of «Sotnyk» for combine operators is its excellent suitability for direct harvesting. The tendrils interlock to create a dense, stable mat that doesn't collapse under rain or wind. This allows for higher ground speeds and reduces header losses significantly. You no longer have to worry about low-cutting or pushing dirt through the cutter bar. The result in the hopper is equally satisfying: large, uniform seeds (1000-seed weight of 200–260 g) with a high protein content (21–25 %), making it a premium product for the processing market.

Field Economics

• Vegetation period of 70–80 days: A short window that allows harvesting before the peak summer heat, extending the life of your equipment.
• Uniform maturity: Minimizes grain damage during threshing, ensuring a clean sample.
• Adaptability: Specifically bred for Ukrainian climatic conditions, providing a predictable output even with standard management practices.

If your goal is to secure high-quality marketable grain without the extra costs of desiccants or struggling with lodged crops, this variety delivers on its promise. Its simple management, clear harvesting timelines, and low maintenance requirements make «Sotnyk» a reliable, high-performing asset for any farm operation.
