Maize NS-208

Genetic Potential and Adaptability of NS-208

Serbian breeding by IFVCNS (Novi Sad) is traditionally focused on stress resistance, and the NS-208 hybrid is a prime example. With an FAO rating of 90–1240, this hybrid demonstrates the stability characteristic of mid-early crops, maturing in the 100-110 day range. It is an optimal solution for farms focused on flexible use: the flint-dent grain type allows for efficient production of both grain and silage.

Biological Armor: Resistance to Phytopathogens

The key feature of NS-208 lies in its high field viability. The breeders at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops (Novi Sad) have incorporated a comprehensive immune profile into the hybrid:

• Phytosanitary protection: The hybrid possesses significant resistance to Helminthosporium and Fusarium, which significantly reduces the risk of mycotoxin accumulation in the grain under high-humidity conditions.
• Common Smut: Genetic protection allows the crop to maintain ear integrity even in regions with a high infection pressure.
• Anti-stress capacity: High resistance to stem borer (Sesamia genus) damage minimizes lodging, which is critical for mechanized harvesting.

The practical value of this set of characteristics is clear: the grower achieves predictable results while reducing costs for fungicidal treatments. Its versatility—ranging from high-quality forage to high-energy silage—makes NS-208 a reliable asset in crop rotation for those who value European seed quality with proven performance.
