Morphology and Lodging Resistance

The key structural feature of the plant is its semi-leafless (tendril) type. Unlike traditional varieties, where a high leaf surface area promotes rapid lodging in excessive moisture or strong wind, Protin forms a robust 'framework' of tendrils. These tendrils act as a reinforcing mesh, interlocking the plants. Practically, this ensures the crop remains upright even with high biomass, drastically reducing the risk of bottom pod rot and allowing the combine to operate at higher speeds without clogging the header.

Harvest Efficiency

Protin is engineered for direct harvesting. Technically, this is achieved by the placement of the lower pods at a height sufficient for the combine's cutter bar to pass without soil intake. Such adaptability reduces the number of equipment passes and minimizes mechanical grain losses, which can reach 15-20% in standard varieties.

The variety is tailored for commercial grain production. The breeding focus is primarily on biochemical composition: a protein content of 25–26% makes this variety highly sought after in both the feed industry and for food processing needs.
