Onion Virgilio

Cultivating Virgilio Salad Onion: Insights from the Field

Working with genetics from Italy’s Isi Sementi S.P.A, you quickly learn to appreciate consistency. The "Virgilio" hybrid is a prime example of performance meeting expectations. As an early-maturing salad onion, it completes its cycle in up to 90 days, which is a significant advantage for those looking to be among the first suppliers in the market.

From an operational standpoint, Virgilio is a predictable crop. The germination rate is consistently high, which helps reduce seed waste. The bulbs are uniform and perfectly round, a trait that proves essential during mechanized harvesting as it minimizes bruising and damage. The outer skin displays a deep, attractive bronze color, while the interior flesh is crisp, white, and features the mild flavor profile that characterizes premium salad onions.

Key Agronomic Benefits

• Maturity: With a cycle of up to 90 days, it fits perfectly into an efficient crop rotation schedule.
• Durability: The bulb is dense and well-protected by its skin, ensuring minimal loss during transport and handling.
• Efficiency: It responds well to standard fertilization and irrigation protocols, requiring no complex adjustments, which keeps labor and input costs manageable.

For growers who prioritize time and marketability, Virgilio serves as a reliable workhorse. It is forgiving enough to handle minor variations in agricultural practices while consistently delivering a harvest that appeals to consumers. If you are targeting the fresh market, this hybrid provides the visual appeal and quality necessary to secure a competitive edge.
