Onion hybrid Derby F1 is an ultra-early, high-yielding variety developed by Dutch breeders of the company Bejo Zaden. It is ideally suited for open-ground cultivation in various agroclimatic zones of Ukraine and Moldova without the need for seedling cultivation. The vegetation period is approximately 90-95 days from the emergence of the first seedlings, allowing for a single-season harvest. The onion forms round, uniform bulbs with dense dark-golden or bronze outer scales and juicy, crisp inner flesh with a moderately bitter taste and mild sweetness. The inner scales are thick, with dry matter content reaching 10.5%, ensuring good storability and preservation of market appearance during storage and transportation.
Hybrid Derby F1 exhibits high resistance to a range of diseases, including powdery mildew, root rot, and fusarium, as well as does not produce flower stalks and is not prone to cracking. Its strong root system contributes to good adaptation to various weather conditions, making this variety low-maintenance and easy to cultivate. The onion is suitable for mechanical harvesting, simplifying the harvesting process and increasing efficiency.
The recommended sowing rate is approximately 1 million seeds per hectare, with seed consumption of 4-8 grams per square meter. Planting should be conducted at a spacing of 1x10 cm to a depth of about 3 cm. Due to its qualities and versatility, onion Derby F1 is suitable for both fresh market sales and processing and long-term storage, making it a profitable choice for commercial cultivation and home use.
