Onion Amulet

Crop Stability: Practical Insights on the Oberih Variety

For onion producers, the Oberih variety from the Dnipropetrovsk Research Station of the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing (NAAS) represents, above all, a predictable result. Unlike sensitive foreign hybrids that require perfect growing conditions, this variety shows resilience to the temperature fluctuations typical of our climate. Field experience indicates that the crop efficiently utilizes fertilizer input: with consistent irrigation, it rapidly develops marketable bulb mass.

Operational and Agronomic Performance

• Cultivation: The variety responds well to intensive farming practices. Ensuring good soil structure is critical, as its robust root system thrives in well-aerated soil, resulting in better bulb formation.
• Harvesting: The density of the outer scales provides high resistance to mechanical damage during combine harvesting, which is a significant advantage when working on larger plots.
• Storage: A key feature for farm managers is the shelf life. Oberih demonstrates minimal decay during winter storage, allowing producers to hold off on sales until the market price peaks in the spring.

Maintaining a crop of Oberih does not require specialized growth regulators. Standard protection measures against downy mildew and timely fertilization during the early growth stages are sufficient to achieve a quality harvest. This variety is forgiving of minor agricultural oversight, which in other hybrids might lead to significant losses in crop marketability.
