Onion HYBRINA

Consistency in Winter Cropping: The Hiberna Advantage

The 'Hiberna' onion variety, developed by the Czech breeder Moravoseed in collaboration with John Bertinat Seeds, serves as a cornerstone for growers who prioritize predictability in winter onion production. In an era of unpredictable weather patterns, this variety stands out for its structural resilience and ability to deliver a consistent commercial yield early in the season.

Why Growers Choose Hiberna

Unlike intensive hybrids that may require highly specific management, Hiberna is prized for its plasticity across various soil types. Key attributes include:

• Bolt Resistance: Hiberna is genetically optimized to withstand the temperature fluctuations common during the transition from winter to spring, drastically reducing the risk of premature bolting.
• Commercial Appeal: The bulbs exhibit a uniform, round shape and possess firm outer scales. This ensures excellent shelf life and simplifies post-harvest mechanical handling.
• Early Market Access: By maturing significantly earlier than spring-sown varieties, Hiberna allows producers to tap into premium early-season pricing.

Who Should Grow Hiberna?

This variety is the optimal choice for farm operations focused on the winter sowing cycle. If your management strategy revolves around risk mitigation and reliable throughput, Hiberna acts as a robust 'workhorse' in your crop rotation. It does not require complex or exotic inputs; however, adhering to the recommended seeding densities provided by Moravoseed is essential to ensure optimal bulb sizing and quality.

While Hiberna is highly resilient, standard phytosanitary practices during the onset of spring growth are advised to maintain health. Ultimately, Hiberna is not about chasing fleeting trends—it is about the confidence that your operation will deliver a professional, high-demand product as soon as the season allows.
