Onion Glacier

Stability and Performance under Long-Day Conditions

It is a reliable choice for professional growers who prioritize uniformity and storage potential.

Field Experience

What stands out about Glacier is the tight scale adhesion and the rapid neck closure. For anyone running mechanical harvesters, this is critical—the onion dries down evenly, which minimizes harvest damage and sets the stage for long-term storage. When managed with proper irrigation and integrated pest management, the bulb uniformity is impressive. Key benefits include:

• High yield of marketable bulbs with virtually zero splits or doubles.
• Superior storage quality: with the correct curing process, the onions maintain their quality and appearance well into mid-winter.
• Vigorous early growth that helps canopy over the rows quickly, reducing the need for aggressive herbicide applications.

Management and Maintenance

Glacier isn't demanding, but it does respond well to a focused nutritional program. The key is to manage nitrogen levels in the second half of the vegetation phase; keeping nitrogen in check ensures the bulbs mature fully rather than pushing unnecessary leaf growth. The disease resistance profile is consistent with Bejo's high standards, allowing for a more efficient fungicide spray schedule without compromising the final harvest volume.
