MEGION

MEGION is a mid-ripening and medium-height spring oat (Avena sativa L.) variety characterized by lodging resistance. It features high yield, averaging 41.7 c/ha in the Central region, and a thousand-kernel weight ranging from 25 to 50 grams. Kernel density varies from 385 to 587 g/L, and protein content can reach 15%. This variety is susceptible to powdery bunt, which should be taken into account during cultivation.

MEGION oat is undemanding regarding soils and predecessors, making it profitable for cultivation in various agro-climatic zones, including the Central, Volga-Vyatsky, Central-Black Earth, Middle-Volga, and Ural regions. To achieve the best yield, it is recommended to sow oats after legumes and tillage crops. Before sowing, seeds must be treated, and using sowing material with a thousand-kernel weight of approximately 30-35 grams and a germination energy above 80% is considered optimal.

Genetic studies of the MEGION variety revealed new blocks of avenin components, inherited as single codominant mendelian units and controlled by three independent loci. These discoveries enable the use of the variety in marker-assisted selection for assessing genetic diversity and searching for economically valuable traits, contributing to further improvement of oat quality and adaptability.
