Oats variety PROGRESS is a spring naked-seed variety of fodder direction with medium-maturing characteristics and a vegetation period of 70 to 89 days. This variety is characterized by medium drought resistance and lodging resistance at the level of standard varieties, which ensures yield stability in various climatic conditions. The mass of a thousand grains ranges from 26 to 35 grams, and the protein content varies within 12.4-18.7%, making it a valuable fodder component. Natural grain weight is in the range of 560-680 g/l, indicating good seed material quality. The variety is susceptible to hard and powdery bunt, which requires attention in agrotechnical measures.
Oats PROGRESS is recommended for cultivation in regions with a temperate climate, such as the Kemerovo region and the Northern forest-steppe of the Omsk region, and is also successfully grown in the Forest-steppe and Polesye zones of Ukraine. The crop is undemanding to soils and predecessors, but to achieve high yields, it is preferable to sow oats after grain legumes and tillage crops. Seeds must be treated before sowing, and the optimal mass of a thousand grains for sowing is 30-35 grams with a germination energy above 80%. Oats are characterized by good tillering, which requires an increase in the area of nutrition, but the energy of development of side shoots is lower than in other cereal crops.
Agrotechnology of oat cultivation includes the application of fertilizers: phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are applied during the autumn tillage, and nitrogen - in spring, with a norm of N30-60P30-60K30-30. Harvest collection is recommended to be done separately, starting at full grain maturity in the upper part of the panicle and medium maturity in the middle. Thanks to its undemanding nature, cold resistance, and high biological value, oats PROGRESS is widely used as a fodder crop for livestock and poultry, as well as a cover crop for improving soil structure and biological regeneration of lands.
