Petrovich spring oat is a mid-early to mid-height grain-forage variety, recommended for sowing in various climatic conditions, particularly in the North Caucasus region and Krasnodar Krai. The vegetation period ranges from 74 to 87 days, maturing 2-4 days earlier than the Valdín 765 variety. The plant features a semi-erect bush with a two-sided ear and drooping spikelets, while the mass of 1000 grains varies from 27 to 35 grams. Average yield in the region reaches 31.2 centners per hectare, which is 2.3 centners higher than the standard, while in Krasnodar Krai, the yield can reach 43.4 centners per hectare, with a maximum recorded figure of 65.6 centners in 2017.
The Petrovich variety exhibits lodging resistance and drought resistance comparable to standard varieties such as Chernigovskiy 27 and Valdín 765. It is moderately resistant to crown rust but highly susceptible to powdery bunt. The grain of this variety boasts high quality: protein content reaches 11.8-12%, fat from 4 to 7%, and starch exceeds 45%, making it valuable for use as feed raw material.
This oat is widely used in the agro-industry to produce high-quality grain and fodder crops. Thanks to its agronomic characteristics and adaptability to various growing conditions, the Petrovich variety is a reliable choice for farmers seeking stable and high yields with moderate care and plant protection requirements.
