The plant is characterized by a mid-early maturity period with a vegetation period of 67 to 85 days, allowing for a stable harvest at optimal times. The variety is distinguished by its dwarf stature and the formation of an intermediate bush of medium height with two-sided ears, whose branches are positioned from horizontal to semi-lifted. The ears are drooping with a long awn and a waxy coating of medium to strong intensity, and the grain is large, contributing to high product quality.

One of the key features of KWS Contender is its high resistance to lodging and shattering, provided by a strong stem and intensive tillering. The variety demonstrates moderate drought resistance and possesses good resistance to diseases such as loose smut and crown rust, reducing the risk of yield losses.
