The «Viuzhanka» mustard variety is a winter form of Sarepta mustard, created by breeders of the VNIIMK institute through the method of resynthesis and subsequent individual selection of elite plants. It is distinguished by high winter hardiness (32% higher than the standard) and resistance to lodging, seed shattering, as well as to major pathogens. Plants of the new variety are characterized by uniformity, synchronized flowering stage, and mechanized harvesting.
«Viuzhanka» is intended for the production of edible oil and meal with a high content of allicyl (ethyl) mustard oil. The oil content of the seeds is at the level of 46% – 47%, and the content of allicyl mustard oil is about 0.60%. Unlike many varieties, oil from «Viuzhanka» is completely free of erucic acid, which improves its quality and safety for food applications. Average seed yield exceeds the standard by 0.72 t/hm², and potential yield reaches 34 c/hm².
The obtained meal is suitable both for preparing table mustard and for use as a feed concentrate for agricultural animals. Mustard flour from the variety seeds possesses strong fungicidal and bactericidal properties, which makes it a valuable component in the agro-industrial complex.
