RED VELVET is an early-maturing mustard variety suitable for both open and protected ground. Harvest is achieved within 20-30 days after sowing, while plants form a compact rosette of tender leaves ranging from 20 to 40 cm in height, depending on growing conditions.
Mustard leaves have a moderately sharp taste and a light aroma. When young, they are juicy and suitable for fresh consumption in salads, while with longer storage – they can be stewed or served as a side dish to meat and fish. Due to the high content of carotene, vitamin C, and group B vitamins, as well as minerals calcium, phosphorus, and iron, the greens are a valuable source of nutrients.
The variety grows well in year-round indoor culture and can be used as a standalone crop in the garden or as a companion crop next to tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. Sufficient watering is required for optimal growth; with a lack of moisture, leaves become coarse, and plants prematurely start to bolt. Yield ranges from 2 to 3.4 kg/m² depending on growing conditions.
