Appetizing is an annual mid-season mustard plant that reaches a height of 25 to 100 cm and has a powerful, well-leafy rosette. The leaves are reddish-green, large, whole, and juicy, giving dishes a pleasant mild sharp taste. The plant grows quickly: from germination to the first harvest of greens takes 28–35 days.
Mustard greens have beneficial properties: normalize appetite, improve digestion, and contain antioxidants, and also show anti-inflammatory effects. In cooking it is used fresh – in salads, side dishes, and as a seasoning.
For growing, row planting is recommended at a distance of 10–15 cm between plants (seed sowing depth about 1 cm). After the first leaves appear, thinning is carried out, leaving 4–5 cm between plants. Harvesting of greens begins when plants reach a height of 10–15 cm; yield can reach up to 3.7 kg/m². The plant is suitable for year-round growing both in open ground and in protected areas, as well as on window sills in winter.
