Melon ALISA

Working with the "Alisa" Melon

When working with crops from VNIIOOB, you quickly realize that their breeding program is focused on real field challenges. The "Alisa" melon is a reliable performer. From an agronomist's perspective, it is a predictable crop that doesn't require excessive management. Standard irrigation and protection schedules are sufficient to achieve a high-quality yield without unpleasant surprises.

Field Performance and Harvesting

The handling of the fruit is a major advantage. With a weight range between 2 to 6 kg, these melons are perfectly sized for field loading and palletizing. The rind is firm, meaning the fruit doesn't bruise or crack during transport, which is essential for maintaining margins. The orange flesh is not just a visual highlight for retailers but also a sign of the excellent sugar content that customers appreciate immediately.

• Weight consistency: Most fruits fall into the 2.5–3 kg range, which is the sweet spot for retail demand.
• Shelf life and transport: The variety shows excellent durability, minimizing post-harvest losses during long-distance shipping.
• Disease resistance: During the growing season, the crop proved resilient against common melon pathogens, reducing the need for intensive fungicide application.

If you are looking for a variety that performs well on irrigated land and delivers a high yield of marketable fruit, "Alisa" is a solid choice. The key is consistent irrigation management during the fruit development stage, as the plant needs sufficient moisture to support its rapid growth. Once fully developed, the melon is highly resistant to cracking.
