The plant is characterized by a taproot system with nodules containing nitrogen-fixing bacteria, making it a valuable source of protein and improving soil fertility.
The crop is distinguished by high resistance to diseases and pests, as well as good yield indicators. Successful lupin cultivation requires fertile soils with a slightly acidic or slightly alkaline reaction, good drainage, and sufficient rainfall. It is recommended to loosen the soil in spring, remove weeds, and add phosphorus fertilizers to enhance flowering. In late autumn, sections are mulched to protect the root system from freezing.
Lupin is used as a grain product and technical material: its seeds are used as animal feed and in the food industry, and can also serve as raw material for producing various products. The culture easily combines with other perennials, such as salvia, astilbe, and Veronica, which allows for its use in agro-landscape schemes. In the Kozeltsy district, the area of sowing varies from 3 to 150 hectares, and the total production volume reaches several hundred tons.
