Vega's alfalfa is a mid-early variegated hybrid alfalfa variety characterized by high winter hardiness and lodging resistance. The plant has an upright bush with uniform foliage coverage reaching 48-60%, leaves are elliptical with serrations at the upper part and slight hairiness. Inflorescences have an oval shape of medium looseness with variegated flowers, and pods are spiral-shaped with 2.5-4 turns. The mass of 1000 seeds is 2.2-2.4 g, seeds are kidney-shaped yellow-purple in color with 15-20% hard seediness. The Vega's variety is characterized by high dry matter yield — 10-11 tons per hectare, as well as significant seed productivity: in the non-black soil zone, seed yield reaches 250-300 kg/ha, in forest-steppe and steppe — up to 800 kg/ha. The vegetative period is mid-early, with a short flowering period, the duration from the beginning of spring vegetation to the first mowing is 50-55 days, to seed maturity — 120-130 days. Under certain conditions, up to three mowings per season may form, which contributes to intensive regrowth and high feed value. Vega's alfalfa is widely used as green manure, feed, and nectar-producing culture. It enriches the soil with organic substances, nitrogen, and potassium, improving soil structure and reducing soil acidity, making it a good predecessor for many crops. The variety is resistant to diseases such as foaming, rust, and brown blotches, as well as root rot and pests affecting plants to a weak or moderate degree. In 1 kg of dry matter at the budding stage, there are 0.85-0.88 feed units and 167-180 g of digestible protein, making it a valuable component in animal feeding.
