Description
Vladivostok berry shrub "Vlada" – a large bush with a dense, reverse-conical crown over 1.5 m high, which grows quickly and begins fruiting already in the second year after planting. The berries are of medium size (about 0.88 g), violet-blue in color with a thin skin and a weak waxy bloom, possessing tender flesh, sweet taste and aroma. They ripen in the third decade of June, while flowering begins in the second decade of May.
The variety is characterized by high yield – from 1.3 kg of berries per bush, which is above average for honeysuckle. The fruits surpass garden strawberry in vitamin and mineral content. "Vlada" is undemanding: the plant is resistant to diseases and pests, but requires moderate watering – it dislikes soil over-wetting and standing water.
For successful cultivation, it is necessary to choose a place with constant sunlight, preferably the south side of fences or buildings, to avoid winds, especially cold northern ones. The soil should be loose, sandy, rich in organic matter. Cross-pollination is recommended for normal fruiting. Berries can be consumed fresh or used for processing.
