Description
The Amur grape berry (Lonicera) culture 'Renata' is a vigorous bush with a height of over 1.5 m, a dense inverse-conical crown, and thick straight brown shoots. The leaves are large, green, elongated-oval, and the flowers are large, tubular-shaped, whitish-yellow in color.
The berries of this variety are large (average mass over 1 g), spindle-shaped with a rounded base and a pointed tip. They are covered with a strong waxy bloom, which gives them a shine and increases resistance to damage. The berries have a sweet taste with a slight bitterness; the pulp is mealy. The berries ripen in the third decade of June, and the bushes can withstand frosts thanks to high hardiness.
'Renata' differs in above-average productivity – over 1.7 kg of berries can be collected from one bush. The shattering of ripe fruits is moderate, while the detachment of berries is light and dry. The fruits are rich in biologically active substances: anthocyanins, ascorbic acid, vitamins of group B, sugars, organic acids, pectin, tannins and coloring substances. Thanks to this, they are used as a vessel-strengthening agent in hypertension, in the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, as a diuretic and general strengthening agent; juice from berries treats ringworm and ulcers. The culture is also resistant to pests and diseases.
In technical use, the berries of 'Renata' are used for processing into various food products and drinks, as well as as raw material for the production of juices and canning.
