Description

Sinilga is an edible honeysuckle developed at the South-Ural Institute of Fruit and Vegetable Growing and Potato Breeding. The variety was registered in the State Register in 2000 and is cultivated in all regions of the Russian Federation. The bush is characterized by a low-growing, rounded structure, with medium density of shoots that are slightly curved and have a purple tint. Leaves are small, dark green, medium-pubescent, while flowers are of medium size and pale color.

The berries of the Sinilga variety are oval-bumpy in shape, of medium weight (from 0.9 to 1.4 g), with blue skin and a bluish bloom. The taste is juicy, acid-sweet, without bitterness, while retaining a slight freshness. The fruits do not drop, which facilitates harvest collection. The variety has excellent winter hardiness (-45 °C) and resistance to drought, heat, diseases, and pests.

Average yield: from 1.5 to 3.0 kg/bush at areas of about 106 c/ha. Thanks to its universal purpose, Sinilga can be used both fresh and for making compotes, jams, juices, and confectionery products. High sugar (≈9.8%) and acid (≈1.3%) content, as well as vitamin C content (≈42 mg/100 g), make the berries a valuable source of nutrients. The variety is self-sterile, but if desired, it can be grown next to other honeysuckle varieties to improve yield and fruit quality.
