Lonicera 'Capel' – is a powerful and frost-hardy variety capable of growing up to six meters with support, making it an ideal solution for vertical garden or allotment greening. Flowers are gathered in racemes of three to five pieces, have a milky-pink hue and long protruding stamens, creating an effect of airy lace. They open until evening, filling the air with a delicate aroma, and the flowering period lasts 3–4 weeks in May–June. To maintain prolonged and repeated flowering, it is recommended to cut off fruit buds and old shoots, since the plant flowers on current year's shoots.
The 'Capel' variety differs not only in aesthetics but also in the useful properties of the berries. Berries are of medium size (about 0.8 g), have a spindle shape, weakly bumpy blue surface and a slight waxy bloom. The taste is sour-sweet, without bitterness, and the vitamin C content varies from 20 to 150 mg per 100 g of fruit. Moreover, the berries contain carotene, thiamine, riboflavin and folic acid, which makes them a valuable source of micro- and macro-elements.
The variety is resistant to unfavorable conditions and low temperatures, therefore it is suitable for growing in various climatic zones. Thanks to the combination of decorative qualities, fragrant flowering and useful berries, Lonicera 'Capel' becomes a universal choice for both gardeners and those who appreciate the aesthetic appeal of plants.
