Lonicera 'Assol' is an early variety that begins to ripen in mid-June and maintains high yield by the eighth year of growth. Bushes are of medium height (up to 1.2–1.3 m), compact, while shoots are thin, straight, and hairless, which facilitates care and enhances the aesthetic appeal of the bed.
Fruits are large – from 1.1 to 1.5 g, elongated-conical, dark violet in color with a waxy bloom. The flesh is juicy and tender, the skin is thin, making the berries especially pleasant to eat fresh. The taste is sour-sweet, rich in aroma, and the moderate transportability allows them to be used both for sale and for home consumption.
The variety is winter-hardy and resistant to diseases and pests. It prefers unpretentious soils: moist loams and sandy loams, but can grow in partial shade with sufficient light. Due to these characteristics, 'Assol' easily fits into various agronomic schemes and is suitable for both small gardens and commercial plantations.
