Altair

Lonicera "Altair" is one of the most popular and tasty varieties with elongated berries about 2 cm in size. The fruits have a bright blue color with a white waxy coating, the flesh is juicy, sweet and rich in sugars, which makes them an excellent choice both for fresh consumption and for making jams, compotes and other dishes.

The bushes of the variety are compact, 1–1.5 m high, with spherical crowns and upright shoots. They have high decorative value: dense coral-green foliage and bright berries create an attractive look in the garden. "Altair" is distinguished by its early fruiting – the first fruits appear already in mid-summer, and ripening continues from June 25 to early July.

The variety is famous for its winter hardiness: frost hardiness up to -45 °C and high resistance to diseases make it suitable for cultivation even in harsh climatic conditions. It also tolerates both sunny and shady places well, and does not require special care conditions. "Altair" is self-sterile, therefore it is recommended to plant it next to creeping varieties "Malvina" or "Blakitne Vereteno", which will ensure the necessary pollination support.

The fruits contain many vitamins and antioxidants, are beneficial for the cardiovascular system, digestion and immunity. Thanks to their high frost hardiness and resistance to pests, "Altair" is an excellent choice both for garden collections and for commercial cultivation.
