Advaberry: A High-Yielding Raspberry Choice for Commercial Growers

The Dutch breeding company Advanced Berry Breeding has introduced 'Advaberry', a cultivar that perfectly addresses the primary farmer's need: a balance between market-ready aesthetics and heavy yields. This variety is designed for intensive production systems where every square meter must deliver maximum profitability.

Agronomic Advantages

A standout feature of Advaberry is its completely thornless canes. This significantly improves harvest logistics: laborers spend 20–30% less time navigating the rows, and the risk of physical damage to the fruit during picking is minimized. The absence of thorns also streamlines field maintenance, such as trellising and pruning, without the need for specialized heavy-duty protective gear.

With fruit weights ranging from 5 to 10 grams and a consistent conical shape, this cultivar is a prime candidate for the fresh market. The berries are firm and possess excellent shelf life, ensuring they maintain their quality even during long-distance transportation.

Operational Scenarios

• Fresh Market: The early ripening cycle allows growers to enter the market first, capturing the highest seasonal prices.
• Processing: Thanks to its balanced sweet-and-sour flavor profile and dense flesh, Advaberry is well-suited for IQF (Individual Quick Freezing) and the production of premium-grade jams.
• Hardiness: The cultivar exhibits high winter hardiness, making it suitable for temperate regions without the risk of root system damage due to frost.

Yielding between 4–6 kg per plant (and up to 6+ kg in intensive fertigation systems), Advaberry is a robust asset for operations focused on modern horticultural protocols. With adequate water and nutrient management, the plant provides consistent primocane growth, ensuring long-term orchard productivity without compromising berry quality.
