Lettuce Nanette

Technological Potential of Nanett Lettuce

The Rijk Zwaan selection program in the Batavia lettuce segment focuses on two fundamental challenges: commodity stability and crop phytosanitary safety. The Nanett hybrid is the result of years of Dutch genetic research aimed at creating a variety capable of maintaining premium market conditions under intensive conveyor-belt production systems.

Phytopathological Defense

A key technical advantage of Nanett is its genetic resistance to Downy Mildew (Bremia lactucae). In both greenhouse and open-field environments, the Bremia pathogen can destroy marketable crops within days. Utilizing Nanett minimizes the need for heavy fungicide application, which is critical for growers supplying the health-conscious market and retail chains with strict pesticide residue regulations.

Morphological Features and Productivity

• Crop Type: Batavia lettuce.
• Color Palette: Vibrant, intense green that remains stable even under fluctuating temperature conditions.
• Maturation Cycle: The medium maturity window allows for flexible harvesting schedules, effectively preventing crop over-maturation.

The plant architecture is optimized to ensure excellent airflow in the root zone, significantly reducing the risk of rot. Throughout its medium vegetation period, the plant develops a dense yet loosely structured leaf profile, which provides high volume and visual appeal for end-consumers.
