Lettuce Platinas RZ

The Rijk Zwaan standard for Iceberg lettuce

For decades, Rijk Zwaan's breeding programs have set the pace in the leafy vegetable market. "Platinas RZ" represents the evolution of high-yield Iceberg lettuce, designed specifically for professional operations where consistency, crop health, and marketability are paramount.

Agronomic Advantages

The primary challenge in Iceberg cultivation is vulnerability to pathogens and pests. Platinas RZ serves as a robust tool for protecting a grower's investment. Its strong genetic profile provides resistance to major agricultural threats:

• Downy Mildew (Bremia lactucae): resistant to modern strains, significantly reducing the need for chemical intervention.
• Powdery Mildew: provides a natural barrier, ensuring cleaner, higher-quality heads.
• Lettuce Aphid: the breeding focus minimizes pest appeal, streamlining crop management and integrated pest control efforts.

With its vibrant green color and crisp, dense leaf structure, this variety is ideal for both the fresh produce market and processing industries. Its uniform shape and size meet strict retail standards, ensuring high yield efficiency per hectare.

Market Positioning

Choosing Platinas RZ is a commitment to predictable output. Developed in the Netherlands, where climate demands are rigorous, this hybrid displays excellent adaptability across various soil types, provided that irrigation and nutrient protocols are followed. Commercial growers value it for its flexible harvest window and superior post-harvest shelf life—essential qualities for modern, demanding supply chains.
