Remus lettuce is a late-maturing and high-yielding variety, distinguished by its high cold tolerance and disease resistance. The plant forms a large rosette of leaves, semi-erect, with a height and diameter of about 30 cm. The heads are elongated-oval, loose and closed, 25-30 cm tall, weighing approximately 450 grams. The leaves are dark green, elliptical, puckered, dense, succulent and crisp, giving the lettuce an attractive appearance and pleasant texture.
The Remus variety has an excellent mild, slightly sweet flavor without bitterness. The leaves contain lactucin glucoside and a high amount of vitamin E, which helps increase hemoglobin, improve vision, and calm the nervous system. Due to these properties, this lettuce is beneficial for anemia, obesity, diabetes, and hypertension. The juice from the leaves is also effective in treating gastritis and ulcers, making this variety not only delicious but also beneficial for health.
Lettuce Remus can be grown outdoors during spring-summer and autumn periods. The variety is characterized by late bolting, allowing for multiple harvests from early spring to late autumn. For earlier harvests, it is recommended to grow from seedlings sown in early April, and sowing in late October is also possible. When grown without seedlings, seeds are sown in open ground in early May. The plant is strong, with a well-developed root system, resistant to powdery mildew and does not require treatment against aphids, simplifying care and increasing stress resistance.
